The story of 4DWN is incredibly inspiring because it is both unconventional and deeply personal. Their place on the confluence of food security and skateboarding provided a unique storytelling experience and a portrait of humanity and hope that documentary audiences typically don’t experience.
Using skateboarding as our jumping-off point, we navigated a more complex story about people and our place in the world. Throughout the process, we felt a great responsibility to accurately portray Zion’s journey and thoroughly communicate the 4DWN mission. To do this, we decided to put the cameras in the hands of our main characters to capture a deeper, more immersive version of their lives. Combined with our cinematic documentary register this film maintains a human quality that is a North Star for us here at gnarly bay - a project that represents the definition of Amplifying Stories for A Better Tomorrow.
We’re extremely grateful to our partners at EarthX Film , Dickies, and Waterbear, who share in these beliefs and continue to use their platforms to inspire meaningful change.
If you are able to help support 4DWN and their mission to grow community and empower local youth, please consider donating here. Dickies will be matching all donations up to 100k.
